A gratifying weekend :)

by on Aug.15, 2010, under Positivity

From time to time I like to take a moment to simply express gratitude. I have three items for this little thanksgiving celebration: A friendly email, a kind shout-out from a blogger, and a satisfying photo shoot. I just got home from DC, and I’m tired from the drive, but I wanted to write briefly while the sensation of fuzziness is still fresh.

“Hi Devon:  I checked out your site today, and I linked to your film clip. I wanted to make a comment; then I didn’t; then I did, didn’t, did; and here it is: I was concerned that I would be improperly crossing a boundary and, if so, I apologize. You look as happy and serene as a person could be. My computer was slow with the download, so I did not see the entire clip. I admired your smiling, handsome face in the introductory scene. I cannot describe the feeling other than to say that your apparent happiness touched me in a pleasant and personal way. Aside from your physical attributes, you have an inner beauty that touched my spirit today. I wish the best for you. Enjoy your time out weekends.  A  :)   thanks to you.   xo Patrick”

Hi Patrick: I couldn’t ask for a kinder email, and I thank you very much!! xoxo Devon

In addition to this random act of kindness, I was notified of a ping back on my Mission Statement page. I am very happy to say that it was for something positive, and the little blurb about me is at this link. Thank you very much for this. I was needing a boost, and these two people gave it to me. :)

And finally: I did a rather complicated art shoot today with a talented photographer in DC. I felt very content, because we got such a wide variety of images (I will share them when I get them), and we created some nice make-up effects. He is a very gifted artist, and working with him was a creative way to end a nice trip. It was also good to see my friend Sean Knight again in person. Oh, and a side note: I got to chat briefly with one of my favorite former porn models ever, Michael Vincenzo. He was a regular at Titan back in the late ’90′s and early ’00′s, and he is as charming on the phone as I had hoped.

So… a good weekend. And I hope you all had a good one, too!! xoxo

New York, New York!

by on Jul.21, 2010, under Positivity, Video

Well, time to get back in the saddle. I’ve not worked or travelled much for the last six weeks, and it’s time to get out of “vacation mode.” I’ll be in NYC this weekend and Houston next weekend. The first week of August I have some work to do with Fabscout (Suite 703 this time), and then I have my August break (yes, I’m still committing to taking a weekend off each month), which will be in fabulous Minneapolis. Although it was exhausting (when done without interruption), I kinda (in a twisted way) miss the airports and the cloud hopping… Call me crazy, but it will be nice to be zooming around again.

Give it a rest, would ya?!

by on Jun.04, 2010, under Career Advice, Humor

So, I have often said that taking breaks is important, but if you have ever looked at my itinerary you will know that I don’t do this often enough. Burn out! OMG! One reason I blog is to hold myself accountable: If I put it out publically, I feel more obliged to stand up to my ideals. LOL

I am going to commit to taking a weekend off each month. It will either be the first or last weekend of each month. I have already published my travel plans through August, and I don’t want to mess with that anymore. I have a break in June and July, so I will fulfill August and start with Devon’s Sabbath in September. ;) (Although I anticipate treating Minneapolis like a break, because I will be visiting one of my favorite girlfriends up there, so that almost counts as a vacation, rather than a bidnizz ventcha.) I should give the monthy rest a cute name, so that those of you who keep up with me will get the inside joke.

I’m open to suggestions. What should we call my weekend off? Does her majesty “take refreshment and retirement?” HA! What would be the overly formalized term for resting used by the high queens of Europe? I know getting out of bed and getting dressed is “Attending to the Queen’s grand toilet,” but how does one say poetically that I’m going to sit on my ass and eat bonbons while watching “Lord of the Rings?”

Compare and Contrast

by on Mar.12, 2010, under Appearance, Career Advice, Events, Exotic Dancers, Stalkers, Strippers

It’s funny how certain conversations seem to happen in batches. This weekend I am visiting friends and seeing clients in DC. Last weekend I was dancing in Greenville, SC and Asheville, NC. I was booked for the latter first, which was a fundraiser, and since it interrupted my weekend I decided to book the former to have something to do. My good friend Roxy C. Morecox is a widely celebrated female illusionist, and we talk pretty candidly about the escorting. She asked me which I preferred, escorting or exotic dancing. Oddly enough, I have had three clients ask me that question recently too.

I have to say it: Unequivocally, I prefer escorting. The bookings at the clubs this weekend drew everything into sharp focus. I don’t do the clubs hardly ever anymore, so when I do I keep having the same reaction: I used to put up with this abject bullshit? Really?? For TWELVE YEARS???

First, my clients are ALWAYS sober, clean, polite, and respectful. The place where I meet them is comfortable, and I am very relaxed and happy with the time I spend with my clients. I walked into the doors at the clubs and already felt out of place. My asshole even puckered tightly shut when I first walked into one of the clubs. Really? I mean really?? Why does this place have to be so gross?

Let me start by comparing the two. Whether I escort or perform I have to be conscious of my body, appearance, hygiene, and manners. Regardless of which I am doing I also have to be very sensitive to others. Also, whether I dance or date I have to be on top of my business.

However…

When I escort my clients are ALWAYS gentlemen. When I dance, gentlemen are almost nowhere to be found. When I escort my clients compliment my appearance. When I dance I get told any number of insulting comments about whatever feature is most offensive in that particular moment. When I escort the men are interested in talking to me and knowing something about me. When I dance they are far more likely to do or say anthing possible to embarrass or humiliate me. When I escort I can pay my bills. When I dance I am commanded to do any number of ridiculously inappropriate sexual circus tricks for a dollar. When I escort I stay in comfortable hotels. When I dance, the club owners stick me in places that I would be ashamed for clients to see. When I escort there are never requests for barebacking. When I dance I have this thrown at me in the dressing room: “Can I fuck you raw? I am into felching. I like to wipe it on my face – it’s good for the skin.”

Are you kidding me with this? I even had one loathsome individual try to tip me with my own money. He was so high that he thought the tips I’d handed to a friend to count was the cash he’d brought in to tip me with. Ummmmmmm… no. Not so much.

I had a very good time laughing and dancing with Roxy, and I would love to travel with her some more; however, I made in an entire weekend what I can make in two hours without the sleepless nights, smoke, drug addicts, alcohol, wanton groping, and strained muscles/sore back.

I definitely prefer escorting.

Confused dates: What’s up with 10/22-25?

by on Oct.21, 2009, under Career Advice

Okay, so I guess I’d better stop trying to think people aren’t paying attention… LOL

I thought I’d be able to get away with a little experimenting without causing any confusion, but now that I’ve received the eighth or ninth email about it, I suppose I should explain what is going on with October 22 – 25, 2009.

When I advertise I have been placing my ads two weeks in advance. I wanted to branch out to a new city, and thought Seattle sounded like fun. I think I need to start doing three weeks in advance (especially for new cities). The response to my Seattle ad was very low, and so I decided a couple days later to try Minneapolis, but the response there was the same. Bearing in mind that I need to make travel plans a week in advance to get deals on flights and hotels, one week before Seattle/Minneapolis I wasn’t comfortable with committing to either. I chose to go back to a familiar place (which is fine, because I didn’t want to be so far away from home right now anyway – some personal stuff requires me to be able to get home quickly if need be).

Here’s where the irony kicks in: Another week passes, and I have the response level needed to go to either Seattle OR Minneapolis. LOL But I’ve already got commitments in DC, so my current plans have to stand. But the responses I have from Seattle and Minneapolis give me the foothold I need to try again in those places. I wouldn’t have been able to act on either of those ads anyway, because I’d have to get to whichever place tomorrow (and good luck finding a discount on flights/hotels with 24 hours’ notice).

So… For those of you who have written in and asked, “What kind of a whirlwind tour are you planning?” Well… this is what was happening in the background. In summary: I am going to reach further in advance, so as to hopefully avoid this type of confusion in the future. My apologies #1 for presuming no one would notice and #2 for seeming disorganized.
