jonathan, i could argue the inverse, which is why i said this is a chicken-and-egg situation. ultimately i don't think it matters which came first: it's irresponsible (i think we're agreeing on that much). but at the same time it does serve a purpose: we're talking about it and the ramifications of it.

I can see your point Devon regarding demand, but this trend must have started somewhere and it probably came from the porn industry who realized after the first BB videos were produced, and showed a spike upwards in popularity, that they might be sitting on a potential goldmine with BB videos. Now it is hard to find safe sex videos, it is bareback this and bareback that.

The sad thing is this could have been when the gay community went from poster child to villain in terms of the fight against HIV. Now the incidence of HIV among gay men is increasing. A very sad development.

yes, you are absolutely right - it is irresponsible for directors to make bareback porn; however, they wouldn't make it if people didn't want it. this is a case of the chicken and the egg... do people want bb porn, so it gets made, so more people see it and like it, thus more gets made? or: the make bb porn, people like it, more is made, more people buy it, etc.?

either way, it still results in people learning from a poor example.

another issue: many of the models in porn use the videos as advertising for their escorting activities. if you see your model doing bb on video, you know he's willing to do it, so if it's what you want you know you can get it. it puts the models at risk not only while they're making the videos, but later when they see clients (who then put others at risk after sex with the model). it all becomes a very complicated flow chart...

but yes, i agree: bareback porn, although a form of safesex for the individual viewer, in not actually safe sex for much of anyone else.

oh, and joe: i'm flattered you think this site would be effective in your quest. LOL keep in touch xoxo

jonathan,

bravo for bringing this point up for discussion. i am probably a tad older than most of the people that read and contribute to this site so i remember when hiv and aids first burst on the scene. sadly, many people have not learned from others mistakes. when i notice the older folks that practice barebacking, it just blows my mind as they lived through the 80s and watched people die a horrible death due to unsafe sex. i have to admit that i frequent many online sites like manhunt.net, men4sexnow.com, etc; however, i seldom hookup as i really want a more meaningful relationship. that said, i am floored at the number of young guys that are practicing unsafe sex. i know that when guys are young they feel invincible, but i think they need to realize life is not a video game where you can regenerate after 20 seconds of being killed. well that is my soapbox speech for the day. btw, anyone have a friend in need of a decent guy.....lol. hey it never hurts to advertise. i guess i better send devon a payment for the ad....lol

I agree that porn is not necessarily a bad thing, but I wish the whole "barebacking" trend would stop. It does not send the right message to people. Sadly some of the people who engage in it actually believe that HIV does not lead to AIDS.
